History
The North Beach Hotel was built as a large single family home in the early 1900’s. Sometime during the 1950’s it was used as a guest house known as Browns Guest House. Milton Goldberg and his wife Alice stayed at Browns Guest House for many years. At that time it was only open during the Summer months because the building had no heat. This was not uncommon for hotels and homes and many were only used in the Summer.
Milton and his family were no stranger to Ventnor and Atlantic city. His parents had a restaurant on Virginia Ave. called Hollywood Cafe and ran it for more than 30 years. In 1968 Milton, his wife Alice and their daughter Susan and her husband Eli purchased the building and opened the Ocean Side Cottage and used the 12 unit building as a guest house/hotel with a mix of short and long term renters.
It’s close proximity to the beach and boardwalk as well as shops and restaurants made it a perfect investment and place to live. Over the years they made renovations and added heat in order to extend the useful season and eventually moved to the property year round.
History
Mr. Goldberg passed the building to his son Norman who continued operating the business until his retirement in 2011 at which time he struck a deal with John Battista and Agnes Debicz who at the time owned and ran The Carisbrooke Inn Bed & Breakfast just across the street, to purchase the building. John and Agnes began renovating the building and over the next ten years ran it as part of their existing bed and breakfast, The Carisbrooke Inn. It was renamed The Carisbrooke Inn Oceanside Cottage.
